Aasmah Mir is a Sony Gold Award-winning broadcaster with a distinguished 25-year career in TV and radio.
She is the co-presenter of the Breakfast Show on Times Radio with Stig Abell, which launched in June 2020. Previously, she co-presented Saturday Live on BBC Radio 4 alongside Reverend Richard Coles from 2014 to 2020, which attracts more than 2 million listeners every weekend.
She also presents and reports from landmark TV events for BBC1, including the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Hay Festival, The Centenary of Votes for Women and The Battle of Jutland Remembered.
Aasmah has reported for ITV during General Elections (2017, 2015). In 2014, she co-presented Scotland Decides – ITV’s live results programme for the Scottish independence referendum.
Born and brought up in Glasgow of Pakistani heritage, Aasmah graduated in law from Bristol University. At the age of 22, she landed a job as a news reader at STV in Glasgow.
In 2001, she moved to Radio 5 Live, working across the network before moving in 2010 to present Drive with Peter Allen. The programme won a Sony Gold Award in 2011 and again in 2012.
Aasmah left Radio 5 Live in 2012, after eleven years and moved to Radio 4.
In 2015, she appeared on Celebrity Mastermind and won.
She has presented documentaries for Radio 4 and the BBC World Service. She reviewed the papers for ITV’s Lorraine for 4 years. From 2005 to 2007, she wrote a column for the Sunday Herald newspaper.
And from 2013 to 2018 she reported for ITV’s Tonight programme.
Away from journalism, she launched Cracking Curries in 2012 with her sister – a website and cookery series on YouTube, showing novice cooks how to make simple and authentic Pakistani food.
Aasmah Mir regularly hosts and chairs conferences including the Daily Telegraph EU debate with Boris Johnson in 2016, the Creative Cities Convention, The Open Data Institute, Royal Television Society and Focus on Scotland at the University of Stirling.
