Darren Campbell is a talent with a genuine winning mentality and commitment to achieve at the highest levels.
Whether in his sprinting days, playing semi-professional football or managing his sports supplement business, he’s all about careful planning, hard work and perfect execution.
Best-known as part of Britain’s most successful relay team, Darren competed in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay.
Amongst his achievements, Darren won Olympic silver at the Sydney Games, bronze in the 200m at the Commonwealth Games and in the 2004 Olympics, was a member of the winning men’s 4 x 100m relay squad. The win was the first time a GB team had done so since 1912.
Darren was a promising junior athlete winning the 200m at the English Schools Championships before going on to impress at the European and World Junior Championships.
After being selected for the World Championships in 1993 as part of the relay squad, Darren was hit by injuries and spent two years away from athletics. During this time he turned his attention to professional football, playing for Millwall and Plymouth Argyle.
Darren returned to athletics in 1995 attending his first Olympics shortly after.
He began to compete as part of the British 4 x 100m relay team between 1997 and 2000 during which time he won two World Championship medals, a gold medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, and set the European record in the event.
Success also came in the individual events: he became the 1998 European Champion in the 100m and won his first Olympic medal, a silver in the 200m at the 2000 Sydney Games. In the 100m he won silver at the 2002 European Championships and was the 2003 World Championships bronze medallist.
Darren won his last medal in 2006 again taking the relay gold at the European Championships and retired shortly afterwards.
Darren now uses his skills and insight into sprinting technique and handling pressure as a pace and acceleration coach working with Premier League footballers and rugby professionals.
He is also a member of the Youth Sport Trust and other initiatives aimed at motivating children to believe in themselves and get involved in athletics.
