Now a YouTube sensation with videos attracting millions of hits
Once described as "Absolutely Fabulous meets Noel Coward, as sung by The Andrew Sisters”, Dillie Keane formed Fascinating Aida over four decades ago in 1983, and since then have performed in 5 continents, had several West End runs, recorded 10 albums, and received 3 Olivier nominations.
Treasured comedy cabaret all-girl trio Fascinating Aida started performing in a West End wine bar, but soon caught the attention of the media and gained a steadily growing fan base and national popularity, earning three Laurence Olivier Awards nominations for Best Entertainment in 1995 and 2000.
They were voted Most Popular Act 1985 by City Limits magazine and also earned a Perrier Comedy Award nomination.
The group have written songs for numerous radio and television programmes over the years such as Stop the Week, After Hours, People Like Us and TV-am. Some of their most famous songs include Shattered Illusions, Herpes Tango, Cheap Flights, Lieder and Taboo.
They have played stages all over the world, including a month at the Sydney Opera House, however in recent years Fascinating Aida have become a YouTube sensation with videos attracting millions of hits. Their infamous anthem to budget travel, Cheap Flights, has over 6.2 million hits.
Fascinating Aida's live show is a varied one, but uniformly brilliant, with songs that are satirical and poking fun at political figures like UKIP's Nigel Farage, while others lampoon absurd aspects for modern life.
Who could resist the aforementioned YouTube hit Cheap Flights, which sees Dillie, Adele and Liza performing a trilling Irish folk harmony about the perils of booking a flight for 50p? There are occasional slow and sad songs too, like Dillie's moving tribute to her late mother, Look Mummy, No Hands.
Fascinating Aida are the perfect accompanyment to both corporate and private affairs... and over the years they have performed at hundreds of these in all manner of venue and with differing audiences.
They’ve performed in private sitting rooms and in all the great ballrooms of the best London hotels; from the Dartmouth Bandstand, the roof of a Devon folly and a Kenyan beach to singing from a palazzo balcony in Palma, Majorca in front of a largely German-speaking audience of speed-boat fanatics seated about 300 metres from the stage, nothing is beyond the grasp and capabilities of this remarkable and highly original group.
For a live performance from Fascinating Aida at a private function or corporate gathering, experience suggests that a 35-45 minute spot is more than enough. After all, your audience is there for a party and a celebration, not for a full-on Fascinating Aida show. If they are performing at a formal sit-down dinner, the best moment is for them to perform once the coffee has been served... as the audience is warmed up but not too rowdy!
