An award-winning stand-up comedian and writer, Shazia Mirza has toured internationally across the UK, US, Sweden, Ireland and France. She appears regularly on mainstream TV and radio, and her show, Coconut, was nominated for Best Stand Up Tour in Channel 4’s National Comedy Awards.
Hailing from Birmingham, Shazia Mirza read Biochemistry at the University of Manchester and then achieved a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Goldsmiths, University of London. Before embarking on her career in comedy, Shazia was a science teacher.
Her stand-up shows: ‘With Love From St. Tropez’ toured internationally in 2017/18; ‘Dry as they come, sharp socio-political sass on Brexit, burkinis & butt plugs’ and the critically acclaimed ‘The Kardashians Made Me Do It’, played for 103 nights internationally across the UK, US, Sweden, Ireland and France and completed four sell out runs at London’s Soho Theatre in 2016/17. Described as “A powerful show from a powerful woman… fearless, brutal and beautiful” by The Scotsman, the show featured on CNN’s Amanpour, France24, Reuters and ITV News.
A former a columnist for The Guardian, Shazia has also written columns for The New Statesman and Dawn newspaper.
Shazia’s TV appearances include QI, The Jonathan Ross Show, House of Games, The World Stands Up, Last Comic Standing, Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, Pointless Celebrities, The One Show, Loose Women, The Late Late Show and Have I got News for You, among many others.
