Lewis Moody MBE is a retired English rugby union player. With two World Cup Finals, two 6 Nations Championship Winners Medals, two Heineken Cup Winners Medals and seven Premiership Winners Medals, the former England captain, Leicester Tigers and Bath stalwart is a true English rugby legend. Nicknamed “Mad Dog”, Lewis Moody was a skilled and enthusiastic player with a fiery temper that got him in trouble on more than one occasion.
Lewis Moody took up mini rugby when he was just five years old, playing at Bracknell until he was twelve. He later studied Business Administration at DeMontfort University while playing for Leicester Tigers. In the Leicester Tigers youth team, he played flanker and became the youngest Leicester Tigers’ player at the time to play a league game at 18 years and 94 days.
He made his England debut in 2001, beginning an impressive career that saw him challenge his team mate Neil Black for the coveted England No.7 shirt and play a part in all seven matches of the 2003 World Cup matches and win the final line-out in the World Cup final which led to Jonny Wilkinson’s winning drop goal.
Since his retirement in 2011, Lewis Moody has established Mad Dog Sport, a rugby coaching and consultancy company. His energetic and passionate personality has also led to him being a popular after dinner and motivational speaker at corporate events.
Outside his work as a sports speaker Lewis Moody MBE is heavily involved in a number of charities, notably the Leicestershire based children’s charity the Rainbow Trust as well as the national charities HOPEHIV and Our Ladies Children’s Hospital. Lewis is also a champion for The National Association Chrons and Colitis UK which aims to improve life for those affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
Lewis is available for after dinner and motivational speaking. His speeches cover a range of topics including anecdotes from his professional career in Rugby union, to playing for the winning world cup England team.
Outside of rugby Lewis Moody has started a foundation that is focused on raising funds and awareness for those suffering from brain tumours.
